2024-04-06 Reports to the Executive Committee

President Eric Smothers has scheduled his April Executive Committee Meeting of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association for Saturday and Sunday, April 6–7, 2024. The meeting will be held at the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department, 178 Springs Road, Grantsville, MD. The meeting will be called to order promptly at 9:00 a.m.

For those desiring to stay overnight, arrangements have been made at the Hampton Inn Frostburg, 11200 New Georges Creek Road, Frostburg, MD. A block of rooms is being held for MSFA at a reduced rate. Each individual is responsible for making their own arrangements. For reservations, call 301-689-1998 or use the following link: Hampton Inn Frostburg MSFA Block. Rooms are $119.00 per night plus tax, using code OMD. Handicap rooms have been included in the block.

The Allegany Garrett Counties Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association will be hosting a Welcome Reception on Friday evening at the Frostburg Elks Community Room, 126 E Main Street, Frostburg, MD, between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Food and sodas will be provided. A bar will be available, provided by the Elks. Come by, see your friends, enjoy some refreshments, and have a chance to mingle.

President Smothers also announced that for those not participating in the meeting on Saturday, April 6, there will be an opportunity to go shopping. Further details will be announced at the Welcome Reception on Friday night.

Personnel from the Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department have advised that a hot breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, along with a hot lunch for a fee. A continental breakfast will be provided on Sunday, April 7, with a light lunch afterward.

President Smothers has announced that the dress code for Saturday, April 6, 2024, will be shirt and tie. The dress code for Sunday, April 7, 2024, will be coat and tie.

Each Committee Chair and/or Vice Chair should be prepared to give a verbal report to the Executive Committee on the activities of their committee, as well as any upcoming events. All Committee Chairs, Organizations, and Agencies must submit their reports electronically to the Secretary’s Office at report@msfa.org no later than March 27, 2024. This gives the Data Systems Committee time to post the reports.

A copy of the agenda for committees and EMSOF partners reporting times has been attached. You are also requested to have fifteen (15) copies of your report prepared for distribution prior to your reporting time and turned into the Secretary’s Office as soon as possible.

As in the past, any budget requests must be submitted to Chairman Stephan Cox at budget@msfa.org.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in these meetings of the Executive Committee to stay better informed and to update your members on the various emergency services issues being discussed by your association.
