All Officers, Committee Chairs, and Organization Representatives:
President David Lewis has scheduled his first meeting of the Executive Committee of the Maryland State Firemen's Association for Saturday, August 20th, 2011 and Sunday, August 21st, 2011 at the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company located at 1425 Annapolis Road in Odenton, Anne Arundel County. The meetings will be called to order promptly at 0900 hours each day.
For those requiring overnight accommodations, arrangements have been made at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Arundel Mills which is located at 7027 Arundel Mills Circle, Hanover, Maryland. To reach the Inn from Interstate 70 East take US-29 South (Exit 87A – right side) and follow about 9 miles to MD-100 East towards Glen Burnie (Exit 22), follow to Exit 10A, and take ramp right and follow signs to MD 712 South. Arundel Mills Blvd, keep straight. Make a right onto Mills Drive and a left unto Arundel Mills Circle follow to hotel located at 7027. To reach the hotel from US 50 follow over Bay Bridge and take US 50 to Interstate 97 towards Baltimore. Follow to MD-100 West (Exit 14B) towards Ellicott City, take Exit 10 which is MD 713/Arundel Mills Blvd towards Hanover. Turn left onto MD 713 South and follow to Mills Circle, make a right and a left onto Arundel Mills Circle, the Hampton Inn & Suites is located at 7027. The cost for the motel is $109.00 per night. Each individual is responsible for making their own arrangements. The numbers for reservations is 410-540-9225 and mention the Maryland State Firemen's Association to receive your reservation and the special rate, reservation deadline is July 27, 2011. Pet friendly accommodations are available next door at the Marriott Town Place Suites and to reserve a room, please call 410-379-9000. To reach the Odenton firehouse from the Hampton Inn & Suites, go south on Arundel Mills Circle towards Bass Pro Drive and make a left. Turn right onto Arundel Mills Blvd and a left onto MD 713S, go 2 miles and make left onto MD 175/E. Annapolis Road and the firehouse is on the right in approximately 3 miles.
A "Welcome Reception" is planned for Friday evening at Hampton Inn & Suites in the Arundel Room (off the lobby) from 1700 to 1900 hours, with light food, beverage, and a chance to mingle for all. President Lewis has also arranged a trip for those not participating in the meeting on Saturday, plans have been made for a shopping, sightseeing trip and lunch in historic downtown Annapolis. A "Colonial High Tea" will be served at 11:00 a.m. at Reynolds Tavern on 7 Church Circle; a perfect location for walking the quaint streets of the city. The "Colonial High Tea" consists of a combination of savory and sweet teas, a pot of tea for one; one scone (golden raisin or cranberry orange), whipped cream, strawberry preserves, a selection of finger sandwiches, savory tarts and a variety of tea cakes and pastries, plus your choice of soup, small house salad or a slice of quiche (Lorraine or Vegetable). All the food is prepared in-house. The cost, with tip and service charge, is $25.00 and dress is casual. The bus will be leaving from the firehouse at 9:30 am, please respond to Donna Donaldson at 410.935.8285 or email her at wnd281@verizon.net. For those not desiring to attend the "High Tea" but wish to visit downtown historic Annapolis and shop on their own, transportation will be provided from the Odenton fire house. The Odenton Volunteer Fire Company & Ladies Auxiliary will also be hosting a hospitality event at the fire station on Saturday after the meeting
There will be a hot breakfast served on Saturday for a fee and a complimentary continental breakfast on Sunday morning starting at 0730 hours each day.
President Lewis and his wife Gloria invite you to enjoy dinner and jousting tournament and show at Medieval Times on Saturday night at 1900 hours, cost is $51.34 per person (price still being negotiated). Please check the attached reporting schedule for the day and order which you have been scheduled to report to the Executive Committee. Please note that the order of reports has been changed from prior meetings so your committee may be reporting at a different time and day from which you are accustomed. If this schedule presents an extreme problem, contact the Executive Committee Chair Wylie Donaldson (wnd281@verizon.net), so that you may be re-scheduled. All Committee Chairs, and all organizations and agencies are reminded that your reports must be sent electronically to the Secretary's office at reports@msfa.org no later than August 13th. You are also requested to have ten (10) copies of your report prepared for distribution prior to your reporting time and should be turned into the Secretary's Office as soon as possible.
Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in these meetings of the Executive Committee so that you can be better informed and updated on the various emergency services issues, to better serve the citizens of Our Great State.
