Grants Committee

The MSFA Grants Committee offers support for identifying and applying for grants and corporate support programs.

The Committee has two focus areas:

AFG / SAFER / FPS Grant Programs from FEMA / DHS
Corporate Support Programs

Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program:

FEMA / DHS offers grants to member departments under three grant programs within Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG):

AFG Program: tools, equipment, PPE, and apparatus
SAFER: hiring of firefighters AND recruitment & retention of volunteer firefighters
Fire Prevention and Safety (FPS): fire prevention and life safety education programs

Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Application Package:

The Volunteer Fire Assistance Program is authorized in Section 10(b)3 of the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978 (PL 95-313, as amended by the Forest Stewardship Act of 1990 (PL 101-624). This program authorizes expenditure of federal funding to prevent and suppress rural fires and enhancing protection capabilities by assisting rural communities with training, equipping, and organizing fire departments. Grant applications for funding should be focused to address wildland fire and wildland urban interface issues and needs for communities at risk from wildfire.

Corporate Support Programs:

Firehouse Subs

Firehouse Subs established its non-profit, Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, with the goal to provide funding, life-saving equipment, disaster assistance, and educational opportunities for first responders and public safety organizations. Recipients must be within 60 miles of a Firehouse Subs franchise. Awards range from $10,000 to $20,000.

Quarterly Application Deadlines:

1st Quarter Grants: December 15 at 11:59pm for
2nd Quarter Grants: March 15 at 11:59pm
3rd Quarter Grants: June 15 at 11:59pm
4th Quarter Grants: September 15 at 11:59pm

Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation

Baltimore Gas & Electric (BGE)

BGE’s grant supports organizations that are committed to safety during emergency preparedness, and response efforts to urgent and immediate needs. BGE encourages 501(c)(3) organizations that respond to the community’s needs on an emergency basis to apply for a grant. Grant range: $500-$10,000

Up to $2,000: Small, local-size organizations focused on a single community
Up to $10,000: Mid-to-large-size organizations working across multiple communities

Walmart and Sam's Club

Awards grants of $250 to $2,500 through Walmart stores, Sam’s Clubs, and Logistics facilities. Eligible, non-profit organizations must operate on the local level or be affiliates / chapters of larger organizations that operate locally and within the service area of the facility from which they are requesting funding.

Target

Target stores award grants to public safety agencies and programs to prevent crime, train and educate law enforcement and support youth programs and community preparedness. Interested in applying for one of Target’s public safety grants? Contact your local store’s Assets Protection Team.
