All Officers, Committee Chairs and Organizations Representatives:
President Jackie Olson has scheduled the next meeting of the Executive Committee of the Maryland State Firemen's Association for Saturday, April 12, 2014 (Please Note this is a one day meeting) at the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 28165 Hills Club Road, Mechanicsville, Maryland 20659. There will be a hot breakfast served for a fee and the meeting will be called to order promptly at 0930 hours, (note the change in time) with lunch being served at noon. The Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department will also be serving dinner after the meeting for those who are staying in the area, please RSVP to President Olson at jolson@msfa.org if you are staying for dinner.
For those desiring to stay overnight, arrangements have been made at the Best Western Plus Park Avenue Hotel, which is located at 41655 Park Ave, Leonardtown, Maryland 20659. A block of rooms is being held for MSFA at a reduced rate. Each individual is responsible for making their own arrangements by calling the hotel direct at 301-475-3000 and use group code "MSFA" to receive the reduced rate. Deadline for reservation is April 5, 2014.
To reach the hotel from US 301S/Crain Highway, turn left on MD 5 South (Mattawoman Beantown Road) and go approximately 5 miles and make a left onto Leonardtown Road (MD 5 S) and travel for approximately 28 miles and make a right onto Point Lookout Road (MD 5) and travel for 18 miles and make a right onto Washington Street then make a left onto Park Avenue, the hotel is on the right.
To reach the hotel from the Eastern Shore, travel west on Rt. 50/Rt.301 to exit 23A for MD 2 South toward Parole/Prince Frederick and turn left onto MD 2 South, Solomons Island Road for approximately 20 miles and at the traffic circle, take the 3rd exit and stay on MD 2 South and continue to the next traffic circle, continue straight onto MD 2 South and make a left onto MD 2-4 South. Follow MD 2-4 south through Prince Frederick, to Solomons crossing the Thomas Johnson Bridge into St. Mary's county continue straight on MD 4 and turn right on Point Lookout Road (MD 5) , then turn left onto Fenwick Street, then left on Court House Drive and take the first right onto Park Avenue and the hotel is on the left.
A "Welcome Reception" is planned for Friday evening at the Best Western Plus Hotel between 1800 – 2000 hours. This event is hosted by the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen's Association where light food and beverages will be served and you will have a chance to mingle with all. President Olson has arranged a trip for those not participating in the meeting on Saturday to the Apple Basket and a local winery and lunch. Please RSVP her at jolson@msfa.org or contact her at 443-871-0409 by April 1st if you are planning on attending that day.
Please check the attached reporting schedule for the order which you have been scheduled to report to the Executive Committee. Please note that the order of reports has been changed from prior meetings so your committee may be reporting at a different time from which you are accustomed. Please contact Dennis Skinner at 410-535-7616 if you are unable to attend the meeting so that your report can be read during your agenda time. All Committee Chairs, and all organizations and agencies are reminded that your reports must be sent electronically to the Secretary's office at reports@msfa.org no later than April 5, 2014 and budget request can be submitted to Chairman Stephen Cox at stephan.cox@navy.mil . You are also requested to have ten (10) copies of your report prepared for distribution prior to your reporting time and should be turned into the Secretary's Office as soon as possible. If you fail to submit your report electronically, please have 20 copies of your report available for distribution prior to your reporting.
Everyone is encouraged to attend and participate in these meetings of the Executive Committee so that you can be better informed and updated on the various emergency services issues, to better serve the citizens of Our Great State.
